BTG Blogwatch - Uncultured.com

This is a response to this post over at uncultured.com

Last post I wrote about how BTG was going to donate $400 dollars to Shawn in Bangladesh, of the Uncultured Project.

Shawn actually contacted me shortly after BTG donated the first $200 dollar installment, and we both agreed that, though Shawn needs all the help he can get at this point (both fiancial and otherwise, more below), his friend Matt in Uganda actually needed the money more (follow the link as to why). So BTG will now be donating just under $500 dollars so that Matt can complete his micro-financing project with his NGO.

I’m really not trying to toot my own horn here, but it just goes to show what kind of impact angel investors can have: I don’t know what Matt would have done if I hadn’t been offering the right amount of money at the right time. The full amount he needs is $500 dollars, which will be split by BTG and another of Matt’s supporters (though I believe BTG will still provide the majority of the funding). Matt has, understandably, been feeling rather stressed out because it is so hard to find support for his projects; I’m glad he has found support through the Uncultured Project and I’m equally glad that he could find support through BTG. It gives me hope that somewhere, out there, maybe when I need help (seriously, does anyone know css? How do I make the font black on BTGNOW.NET? /cry ) some angel will swoop down and help me out too.

Now, on to more pressing business. Remember what I said about Shawn needing all the help he can get? Not all the problems he’s encountering in Bangladesh can be solved with money. Specifically, Shawn has encountered a filial resistance from his wealthy relatives in Bangladesh that I can only describe as incredible. Incredible.

So while half his family are actively trying to dissuade Shawn, the other half are bending over backwards to help him out, and poor Shawn is stuck in the middle.

This is where we come in, citizens of the internet! We have to tip the scales of support in Shawn’s favour once again. I know only too well how frustrating and lonely it can be trying to maintain a project at the best of times, I can only imagine what it must be like in a foreign country with your very family actively working against you.

It’s important to support the cause, but it’s equally important to support the champions of the cause.

So won’t you leave a comment on his videos, on the uncultured blog? Maybe join the facebook group? Why not subscribe to his youtube channel or just visit the blog every now and again.

If Shawn has taught me anything, it’s that the littlest bit of support can blossom exponentially. Shawn’s been doing it for months for others, now it’s time we did it for him.
