BTG Knocked Out of PF Challenge Tournament

August 24th, 2008 BTG Posted in Tournaments 2 Comments »

Well, it had to happen sometime: BTG has been defeated for the second time in the in PF Challenge inaugural tournament, (you’ll recall BTG lost it’s first round to My Dollar Plan) and is therefore eliminated!

The winner? Pinyo of Moolanomy.com I can’t speak for Pinyo, but it was one of my worst games yet: somehow I only ended up with $300 after the first 2 rounds (darn you American Tax System, why do your forms have to have such strange names XD ?). I ended up pulling it out of a hat near the end, and thought maybe, just maybe, the $7000 I managed to accumulate in the last rounds would be enough to keep me in the game.

But alas, it was not, and I was bested by Pinyo in the last round: though I have to say, if I had to lose to anyone I’m honoured it’s him. Be sure to check him out at Moolanomy to see what I mean: this guy knows his stuff!

So thanks for the opportunity Debtkid! It was great fun and I learned a lot (and made some new friends along the way too!)

BTG Wins Its Third Round of The PF Challenge!

August 16th, 2008 BTG Posted in Tournaments No Comments »

BTG has won its third game in the PF Challenge inaugural tournament! It was a hard fought battle against Gather Little By Little, and one that came down to the very last question. Thank goodness for Google. Did you know in the States that you can start drawing from social security at age 62? I didn’t!

I am sorry that a great blogger like GLBL had to lose our match, but no longer having to worry if he was going to beat me allowed me to take a closer look at his site. There’s some excellent advice nestled deep within these pages, one of which inspired me to write an article about how to open an ING account to save for specific gift giving occasions.

So good game GLBL! And thank goodness for Google (and the ability to type very, very quickly)!

BTG Wins It’s Second Round of The PF Challenge!

BTG has won it’s second game in the PF Challenge inaugural tournament!

Unfortunately, for BTG to emerge as the winner, that means that someone had to be knocked out, and sadly that person was Kevin of No Debt Plan.

No Debt Plan, which should be interpreted as “No Debt” Plan ( which is good, as opposed to No “Debt Plan”, which would be bad) is a great resource for anyone looking for tips on how to budget, save money, live frugally, and as the title implies, try to live without debt.

No Debt Plan is currently hosting the August 11th 2008 edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance, in which BTG has submitted it’s “Compound Interest Is Free Money” article.

It was an incredibly close game which saw me sweaty palmed and feverishly trying to answer as many questions correctly as I possibly could in that last round, and even THEN I had to bet 60% of my total just to have a shot at winning. If that betting thing at the end didn’t exist, Kevin would have beaten me by a mile (a mile, in this case, being just over $4000).

Great game Kevin, and good luck with the Carnival!

BTG Gets PWNED By My Dollar Plan in The Facebook PF Challenge

August 1st, 2008 BTG Posted in Tournaments 1 Comment »

Debtkid, who is surprisingly (and successfully) enterprising for someone in his situation has helped to develop a great little facebook app called the PF Challenge.

It’s a really neat game where you can go head to head with a friend to see who can answer the most questions about money and finance correctly, but the best part is, there’s an inagural tournament!

The first rounds have just ended and sadly, yours truly lost her first match, which also broke my winning streak. The good news is, it’s a double elimination tournament, so I still have a shot at the prize!

It was, however, a pleasure losing to My Dollar Plan! I’ve also decided that since she beat me, and since her blog is choc-a-bloc with great financial tips and tricks, that My Dollar Plan will be featured as next wednesday’s “Useful Website”!

Great game Madison, and congratulations! You’ll be able to check out a review of your site right here on BTGNow.net as of next wednesday!
